ProceduresMany different procedures are conducted on these innocent animals , but three main procedures are eye irritantcy, skin sensitization, and dermal penetration. Eye irritantcy (pictured to the right) is when a product is injected into one of the eyes of an animal to see how the animal will react, the other eye is used as a control to be able to compare the reaction. This procedure usually leaves the animal with blindness, bleeding, ulcers, and can result in death. Secondly, there is skin sensitization. During this, an animal is shaved and has a product placed on, or injected into the animal. The scientists then check the animals for possible allergic reactions. Lastly, in dermal penetration, the animal, in this case, it's usually a rat, gets a substance injected into it. The scientist then kills the animal and observes the amount of product that was absorbed into it.
